Custom map or star chart
A map centred on a meaningful location, or a star map of a significant date. It's one of our featured picks in the Personalised & Engraved Gifts guide, and typically costs £20–£45 in the UK depending on the retailer and any personalisation.
Why It's a Great Gift
Among Personalised & Engraved Gifts ideas, Custom map or star chart tends to land well because it shows a bit of thought without requiring you to guess too much about exact taste or size.
Part of the appeal is how flexible it is: it works as a stand-alone present or as part of a bigger bundle alongside a card and a smaller extra. Take a look at our wider Gift Formats guide for more ideas like this one.
Who It's Perfect For
It works well for shoppers who want a gift with a clear purpose, rather than something purely decorative that might not get much use.
It suits a range of moments, including:
- a birthday
- an anniversary
- a group or family gift
What to Look For When Buying
A few practical things are worth checking before you commit to buying Custom map or star chart:
- Delivery timeframes — build in a few extra days beyond the stated estimate if you're buying close to the occasion.
- Gift packaging — some sellers include free gift wrapping or a presentation box, which saves a job on the day.
- The seller's returns or exchange policy — useful cover if sizing, colour or personalisation needs adjusting afterwards.
- Recent reviews from other UK buyers — a good, quick gauge of real-world quality and delivery reliability.
How to Make It Extra Special
If it suits the occasion, pairing this with a shared activity or experience — rather than giving it as a stand-alone item — often makes for a more memorable day.
Price Guide
Typically £20–£45 in the UK, depending on the retailer and any personalisation. Prices can vary between independent sellers and larger retailers, so it can be worth comparing a couple of options before buying. Buying Tips
If you're unsure this is exactly right, look for a seller with a clear returns or exchange policy so there's a fallback if needed.
If budget allows, a slightly higher-quality version of this gift usually lasts noticeably longer and feels like better value over time.
If You Want Alternatives
If Custom map or star chart doesn't feel quite right, it's worth considering Engraved hip flask or glassware or Personalised pet portrait from the same Personalised & Engraved Gifts guide — both offer a similar level of thought at a comparable price.
